- I'm posting this message from my shell account because I'm experiencing a
- major problem reconfiguring my system for a new provider and would like
- any help that can be offered.
-
- The current symptoms:
-
- THOR will not "receive" news from the new carrier
- THOR will not "receive" mail from the new carrier
-
- What happens is that it goes out to contact these servers, and just sits
- there while the RD and SD modem lights flash. But the flashing is
- different from normal; it's not the back and forth flash THOR usually
- causes to happen when contacting the servers. Instead it's like a quick
- blink for SD then a couple quick blinks from RD. Then it sits. I've
- waited for as long as 10 minutes for it to try to connect, but either the
- message always comes back "Receive timed out" or I have to use STOPNET
- to get it to quit, and still get the same message back. So basically it
- just won't work. Same thing with the mailserver, it just times out.
-
- I used to have THOR fully working with another provider. I was pulling
- news off the servers left and right with no problems. In order to add
- the new carrier, I simply created a new system the same way I did the old.
-
- Another strange symptom:
-
- IBROWSE and AMOSAIC will not connect to ANY WWW page on the new carrier. It
- always stops and sits there after sending the HTTP commands in the
- "waiting for response" mode and simply never connects.
-
- In order to use AmiTCP/IP on the new system, I reconfigured my primary
- account with the new carrier's information. Apparently everything works
- with TCP/IP because my ISP Support said they could PING me and see I was
- on the system. I could also ping myself on my old system and use finger
- etc. However, neither THOR, IBROWSE, nor AMOSAIC will work. It's almost
- like they all cannot interpret the responses they are receiving, or
- perhaps they just aren't receiving at all.
-
- I've checked ALL over my system for possible remnants of the old
- provider, and resorted to even deleting all the files from THOR related
- to the old provider and keeping only the new. I even made sure that I
- changed the SOCKETCONFIG to the new domain name. But I've run out of
- places to look, and my new provider - not knowing how Amigas work -
- doesn't have a clue.
-
- Can anyone out there decypher this problem and give me some help? The
- new provider is actually a much better one, and I'd really like to stay
- there if I can just get things configured right.
-
- Thanks in advance.
